Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a well-established hospital lab that is looking for a Chief Medical Technologist to join their team in the Poughkeepsie area! Key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

-Works closely and cooperatively with the Manager to establish policies and procedures for the department.

-Carries out departmental objectives and functions within the technical and proficiency areas of the laboratory as directed by the manager and director.

-Maintains standards of operation as recommended by CAP, JCAHO, NYSDOH, FDA, CLIA and OSHA.

-Recommends short- and long-term plans and programs, policies and procedures to obtain objectives or improve lab practices.

-Recommends orders for approval for space, material, equipment and services to administrative Director.

-Oversees and enacts staffing realignment when conditions warrant. This includes taking into consideration employee skill mix, and overall operational needs for both techs and phlebotomists.

-Assists manager and director with interviewing, discipline and problem resolution with select staff. Provides oversight for the orientation of personnel.

-Carries out disciplinary action and counseling of laboratory personnel when necessary as determined by the manager.

-Participates in the annual performance evaluation process, which is based upon written standards included in position job descriptions. Completes evaluation on time in conjunction with Supervisors and Manager.

-Assists with the preparation of monthly, weekly, daily and holiday schedule to assure adequate technical coverage of the department that limits overtime and maximizes customer service for techs and phlebotomists.

-When necessary conducts and attends various department meetings.

-Coordinates in-service education as directed for other hospital departments and organizations as necessary. Functions as testing and technical expert when questions or concerns arise.

-Assist with documentation, input and review for staff competencies.

-In conjunction with the manager/supervisors/coordinators investigates all state and non-state reportable incidents as related to the laboratory.

-With direction and input from the manager and director provides oversight of staff at remote locations as assigned and necessary.

-Plays a key role in monitoring proficiency test results in conjunction with other staff and supervisors.

-Keeps the director and manager informed of staff issues, technical issues and other situations that impact testing and patient care. Brings solutions and recommendation for correction and improvement.

-Attends hospital meetings as required.

-Prepares statistical data as needed for the director and manager and submits reports as appropriate along with highlights of the weekly or monthly activities.

-Maintains technical skills and transitions to the bench seamlessly as necessary. May rotate on the bench to fill in or assist with workload or staffing requirements.

-Attends to other duties and projects as assigned.

Basic Preferred Profile:

BS/BA in Medical Technology or related.
-NYS Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
-6+ years of histology experience required.
-An ASCP certification with a specialty required.

Salary and Benefits:

$80,000-100,000 (Depending on experience)
