Lighthouse Lab Services has teamed up with a top-tier clinical lab who is dedicated to providing partner practices/providers with the highest level of care with laboratory testing across the offered testing portfolio. Our client is looking for a Director of Lab Operations to oversee their continued growth. 

The Director of Operations will be responsible for daily management of the entire operations team. The Director of Operations needs to have an innovative and operational mindset that has a passion to operationalize the company. This role requires an adept team leadership mentality and the ability to think and operate strategically.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Responsible for being accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support.
-Provides day-to-day supervision of personnel performing high complexity testing.
-Monitors test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
-Fulfills responsibilities as delegated by the Laboratory Director, which may include.
-Resolves technical problems and ensuring corrective actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification.
-Ensures patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
-Evaluates and document the performance of all testing personnel as required.
-Participates in developing/writing new procedures and revising old ones.
-Makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate actions to maintain accuracy and precision with respect to quality control data.
-Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodologies, test specificity, test sensitivity, and factors that can influence test results.
-Assists in the development of new procedures in regard to personnel, space, method comparison, cost analyses, and establishment of reference intervals.
-Performs various chemical procedures with patient specimens using analytical equipment.
-Performs quality control procedures according to established protocol
-Monitor the inventory.

-Performs remedial actions and records all quality control failures and corrective actions according to established protocol.
-Verifies all assays are in control before releasing patient results.
-Performs and logs instrument maintenance according to established protocol.
-Performs calibration of instruments as necessary and ensures calibration period is adequate to cover testing.
-Calculates results according to established protocol.
-Prepares laboratory reports for staff review.
-Follows established protocols for analysis, quality, and ancillary procedures.
-Maintains good inventory and notifies the appropriate person when inventory is low.
-Judges acceptability of specimens and rejects/requests new specimens as indicated.
-Interrupts testing to perform STAT procedures when necessary.
-Processes requests and investigate complaints through to resolution from physicians, staff, and patients, and report all complaints to Laboratory Manager.
-Checks lot numbers when restocking instruments or starting new kits.
-Participates in internal and external continuing education when required.
-Participates in method validation for new procedures and/or equipment.
-Adheres to laboratory and hospital safety practices, including but not limited to OSHA bloodborne pathogens, HIPAA, and hazardous chemicals training and monitoring.
-Cooperates and effectively communicate with laboratory, hospital, and other personnel.
-Makes judgments concerning results and take appropriate actions to maintain accuracy and precision of quality control data.
-Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodologies, test specificity, test sensitivity, and factors that can influence test results.
-Rotates stock and maintain adequate inventory, notify appropriate personnel when stock is low.
-Responsible for human resource activities in regard to laboratory staff including but not limited to personnel interviews, hiring, and performance evaluations.
-Responsible for supporting Laboratory Director in review and documentation of Quality Processes and Assessment.
-Oversees budget preparation, department workflow, capital expenditure requests, staff scheduling and overtime management.

Qualifications

-At least five years of experience supervising lab personnel required.
-At least seven years of experience in a CAP and CLIA licensed clinical laboratory required.
-Bachelor’s Degree/Master’s degree or PhD in Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics with:
60 semester hours including 24 semester hours of medical lab technology; or 60 semester hours including 24 hours of science that includes 6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours chemistry, biology; or
medical lab tech in any combination and laboratory training that includes either ,completion of a clinical lab training program; or 3 months training in each specialty in which high complexity testing is performed.
-Ability to read and comprehend English and comprehend and follow oral and/or written instructions.
-Good communication skills in both written and oral form.
-Reasoning skills to apply principles to draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions, etc.
-Advanced math skills to set limits, understand and use CV’s and SD’s.
-Ability to handle high stress levels due to working conditions and possible irregular hours.
-Ability to recognize potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily secretions, and/or hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
-Must be able to demonstrate the technical skills for routine testing in area of assignment within three months of hiring.

Working Conditions

-It is reasonable to anticipate exposure to bloodborne pathogens and/or hazardous chemicals in this position.
