Key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
–Oversees staff and activities of the laboratory; assigns and distributes work; determines priorities; schedules non-routine procedures.
-Performs duties of Medical Technologist including tests and procedures.
-Checks and approves all reports for accuracy.
-Performs surveys, statistical reports, studies; may participate in research activities and investigates new products, equipment, techniques, methodologies, and introduces, demonstrates, effects and recommends as appropriate.
-Directs the purchasing/requisitioning of laboratory supplies and equipment in collaboration with materials management.
-Directs documentation, establishes record system, and maintains all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs and files.
-Develops and maintains departmental policy and procedure manual as required.
-Maintains harmonious relationship and open line of communication within the department and with other departments, staff, physicians and other support personnel providing support and assistance to ensure quality patient care.
-Utilizes techniques of infection control, including proper handwashing and observing standard precautions.
-Demonstrates clinical competency in areas of responsibility.
-Participates in stocking, sorting or inventory of department supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs.
-Attends and actively participates in management meetings/committees as scheduled /directed by supervisor.
-Maintains a clean, organized and safe working environment in both patient care areas and the department.
-Demonstrates appropriate judgment in notifying/communicating with physicians of pathology reports and critical lab results.
-Demonstrates technical competency through equipment certification, attending manufacturers’ sponsored in-services, and additional training as required.
-Satisfactorily completes competencies as required/requested to maintain and demonstrate current, accurate and appropriate knowledge when performing laboratory procedures and/or management skills.
-Maintains knowledge of regulatory standards as applied to laboratory.
-Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients, their families and other staff members.
-Advises direct supervisor of activities, needs, problems and unusual events.
-Reviews policies and procedures for the department on an annual basis; initiates and recommends the development of and revisions to assure they meet current practice and standards.
-Monitors for performance adherence to current policies and procedures and department compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
-Assists in selecting personnel, trains/orients, measures, assesses and documents staff competency on an ongoing basis; conducts meaningful performance appraisals of employees in an ongoing and timely manner and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel action.
-Identifies the educational needs of staff and initiates action to meet those needs.
-Responds to patient, family, physician and staff concerns/complaints in a timely manner with results of a resolution reported to the supervisor.
-Researches, evaluates and makes recommendations for capital equipment purchases. Identifies all equipment in need of replacement.
-Is resourceful and demonstrates critical thinking skills in emergencies.
-Participates in rotation of stand-by call and responds according to department policies and procedures.
-Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information.
-Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
-Provides scientific, clinical, technical, and administrative insight in the development of CLIA permit and LDTs.
-Ensures the laboratory maintains CLIA certification.
-Oversee quality control (QC) and quality assessment (QA) programs for clinical laboratory services with the Laboratory Medical Director.
-Work with staff to identify, investigate, and correct failures in quality.
Basic Preferred Profile:
-BS in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Biochemistry or related.
-8+ Years of Clinical Laboratory Experience Required
-6+ Years of Supervisor Experience Required.
-ASCP or Equivalent Required.
-Must be Eligible for the NV State Supervisor License.
Salary and Benefits:
–$97,000-130,000 (Depending on Experience)
