Lighthouse Lab Services is partnered with a top-tier hospital, and we are need of a talented Microbiology Supervisor to take over the day-to-day operation of the micro lab. This position is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the Microbiology department, works closely with the laboratory directory and other laboratory leadership team members to ensure compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agency standards, and ensures timely completion of test procedures for efficient patient care.

Major Position Responsibilities:
-Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
-Ensures that the microbiology department is in compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agency standards, to include but not limited to College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation Program, San Diego County Public Health, California Department of Public Health, CLIA ’88 regulations, and Cal-OSHA.
-Provides on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to the microbiology department; maintains effective communication with staff, co-workers, physicians, and other hospital personnel, outside organizations or others who provide or receive laboratory services.
-Assists laboratory leadership in the selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results.
-Purchases or directs purchase of laboratory equipment and supplies; evaluates and verifies new instrumentation and procedures; ensures completion of department instrumentation maintenance and service procedures; writes and updates technical procedures and ensures that all technical procedures are reviewed in accordance to accrediting agency guidelines; monitors department inventory appropriately.
-Appropriately coordinates proficiency testing in accordance with the department test menu and trained personnel.
-Maintains an appropriate laboratory quality assurance program including the development of department quality performance indicators and quality control procedures, for the entire testing process (pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic).
-Appropriately resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications; ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
-Supervises department staff performance, including scheduling, workflow, quality, disciplinary action, and annual performance evaluations; participation in interviews of applicants and makes recommendations for hiring; and maintains and coordinates an appropriate training and competency program in accordance with regulations of all testing personnel in the microbiology department.
-Works in production to maintain technical competency in all areas of responsibility, to fill-in during breaks, short-staffing, excess workload, and/ or complex procedures.
-Represents the Laboratory on the Hospital Infection Control Committee.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must have a minimum of four years previous laboratory experience in the subspecialties of bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology, required.
-Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and expertise in microbiology, required.
-Familiarity with CLIA and CDPH LFS regulations, quality control evaluation, proficiency testing requirements and safety requirements, preferred.
-Possesses written and verbal skills which clearly communicate testing protocols and training for the staff.
-Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
-Must be capable of applying excellent judgment and communication skills to the job.
-Master’s degree in Clinical Microbiology or related, required.
-Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License, required.
