Lighthouse Lab Services is looking for a Screening Lab Manager to join a drug testing diagnostics company near Petaluma, CA. The Screening Laboratory Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination and control of the pre-analytical (specimen receiving and accessioning) and analytical process (specimen screening) in the screening lab. Communication with the direct supervisor and other lab management is essential for smooth operations of the screening laboratory. The manager will ensure smooth operation of the screening laboratory and responsible be for supervising all personnel involved in the process.
-Overseeing the specimen receipt and screening process and ensuring adequate personnel coverage at all times to meet the turn-around time requirements. A staff schedule must be maintained at all times and be available for review by the lab management.
-Determining the human and material resources required to maintain optimal production workflows and coordinating the requests for resources (human and material) with the Laboratory Operations Director to ensure adequacy of resources.
-Monitoring production standards and implementing quality assurance programs in the department in consultation with the QA manager.
-Participating in laboratory management meetings and liaising with different departments, e.g. confirmation, QA etc..
-Working with other managers to implement the company's policies and goals.
-Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed. Suggesting improvements or changes as necessary.
-Ensuring that a professional work environment is maintained at all times.
-Managing, supervising and motivating workers to promote a team concept.
-Reviewing worker performance and facilitating employee competency assessment by CLS personnel. Providing documentation of the training and competency assessment to the QA manager in a timely manner.
-Hiring new department personnel. in coordination with the Lab Manager.
-Performing employee training and identifying training needs. Filling the training gaps in consultation with Director of Lab Operations.
-Performing safety and orientation training for the temporary workers in the department.
-Report all equipment issues to the Instrumentation Manager to facilitate repair.
-Report and co-ordinate the troubleshooting of any IT related issues (Tox 2 etc.).
-Document corrective actions on errors identified in the screening process.
-Complete and provide the QA report for the department to the Chief Toxicologist and the Laboratory Operations Director on a monthly basis.
– A bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, Medical Technology or, related chemical or biological sciences along with at least 2 years’ laboratory experience are required.
– 2 Years previous Supervisory experience required.
