Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a top-notch hospital located on the Hudson and just a 90-minute train ride from Midtown Manhattan. This hospital is seeking an Administrative Director of Laboratory Services; when you're not working this location offers a different way of life from the big city. Key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

-Recognizes the importance of patient/staff safety precautions as it relates to their specific department/area of responsibility. Consistently utilizes precautions and follows appropriate procedures to enhance patient/staff safety in their daily operations. Identifies and reports any potentially dangerous situations to their manager which could cause medical error/patient or staff harm. Immediately takes action, where appropriate, to minimize the risk of injury. Where appropriate to staff member’s responsibilities, reports errors, when these occur, to their supervisor and on an occurrence report. Participates, when appropriate, in Root Cause Analyses and/or other efforts to reduce risk of medical error/patient or staff harm.

-Participates in performance/customer service improvement; actively assists in improving performance based on results obtained from customer satisfaction/PI activities. Recognizes systems approach to PI. Where appropriate, participates in Performance Improvement activities including team membership. Identifies processes that need improvement.
-Establishes policies and procedures for the department.
-Sets and carries out departmental objectives and functions.
-Maintains standards of operation as required by CAP, JCAHO, NYSDOH, FDA, CLIA and OSHA.
-Recommends and initiates short- and long-range plans and programs, policies, and procedures to obtain objectives

-Recommends, initiates, approves or submits orders for approval of space, material, equipment and services, with justification as necessary by the Vice President of Operations.

-Develops and recommends organizational realignment when conditions warrant. This includes employee compliment, budget, and over all operating policy.

-Carries out personnel functions relating to the laboratory including interviewing and selection. Monitors orientation.
-Carries out and assists managers/supervisors with disciplinary action and counseling of laboratory personnel when necessary
-Ensures that all employees in the department have timely and appropriate annual performance evaluations based upon written standards included in their job descriptions.
-Coordinates in-service education for all department employees, other hospital departments and organizations as necessary.
-Investigates all state and non-state reportable incidents as related to the laboratory.
-Keeps laboratory staff informed of all matters affecting their work and profession.
-Attends hospital meeting as required.
-Keeps Vice President of Operations apprised of all new developments both inside and outside of the department.
-Keeps Vice President of Operation informed of the laboratory department responsibilities as required by law, regulation or accrediting mandates
-Works integrally with the Information Technology Department to assure optimum and successful installation, implementation, and operation of the Laboratory Information System.
-Maintains all departmental accreditation, licenses and registrations when applicable.
-Prepares and reviews all statistical reports as required by the Vice President of Operations.
-Researches, develops, recommends and implements new and revised changes, tests, and coding.
-Negotiates discount structures, organizes and participates in combining purchases with both campus laboratories to assure prudent buying practices on appropriate items.

 

Basic Preferred Profile:
 
-Bachelor's/Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science or Related, Master's preferred.
-6+ years of Clinical Laboratory experience in a high complexity lab required.
-Background as a Generalist is highly preferred.
-5+ years of Management experience required.
-NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required.
 
Salary and Benefits:
-100,000-145,000 (Depending on experience)
