The Laboratory Specialist I reviews, analyzes and certifies data generated from liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) instrumentation. This position requires a working knowledge of the liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) platform, laboratory set-up, sample preparation, validation, and technologist training, as well as familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), quality control procedures, troubleshooting problems, documentation of actions taken to correct problems, and adhering to strict standards.


Experience and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology or a closely related field
  • At least 1-2+ LC/MS data analysis and certification experience required, preferably in Multiquant 
  • Training as an LC-MS technologist and as a member of a data certification team preferred
  • Customer relations experience and proven written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional email and telephone etiquette
  • Ability to travel to our Charlotte office for onsite training and meetings as necessary


The Skills You Bring

  • General understanding of LC/MS instrument theory and mechanics of operation
  • Knowledge of physical, environmental, and electrical requirements for instrument location and operation, as well as names and functions of all instrument parts
  • Experience with the integration of LC/MS equipment with LIMS, printers, and other devices
  • An understanding of sample accessioning, barcoding, and tracking practices
  • Knowledge of sample preparation practices for LC/MS, including sample dilution, filtration, or concentration as needed
  • An understanding of the chemicals, reagents, calibrators, standards, supplies, and disposables needed for sample processing
  • The ability to perform instrument calibration, review of calibration data, storage of data calibration, and procedures for resolving failed calibrations
  • The ability to perform the completion of written competency tests


Your Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and completing routine and non-routine data verification before reporting
  • Recognizing unusual and unacceptable specimens and handling appropriately
  • Verifying of QC data
  • Participating in the instruction and training of others
  • Performing additional laboratory functions such as maintain laboratory records, quality control charts, maintenance logs and various logs as needed
  • Performing daily, weekly and monthly maintenance procedures
  • Using instrument error codes to resolve problems
  • Exhibiting laboratory and personnel safety when operating LC/MS equipment 
  • Handling, reviewing, and clearing pending logs
  • Liaising LC/MS technical service to resolve problems
  • Maintaining HIPAA requirements at all times and adhering specifically to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and laws
