Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a well-established hospital lab that is part of a larger hospital system that is looking for a Blood Bank Supervisor to join their team in Brooklyn! Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
-Follow blood bank and laboratory's established policies and procedures, accession specimens and orders into the LIS and HCLL, perform tests, which require the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, with minimal supervision by the director or supervisor, in only those specialties, or subspecialties in which they are qualified by education, training, and experience.
-Reporting of findings, perform tests requiring special scientific skills, and, in the absence of the blood bank manager/director, responsible for the proper performance of all blood bank procedures.
-Perform bench work on basis of laboratory needs for optimal patient care and quality assurance functions as needed.
-Knowledgeable about the contents of the policies and procedures (including changes) relevant to the scope of their testing activities.
-Day-to-day review of test performance by testing personnel, monitors blood bank laboratory processes to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained, to include review of quality assurance practices, environmental monitors, instrument and equipment maintenance/function checks, quality control, calibration, and review reports as needed.
-Assures a safe working environment, capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct problems or immediately notify laboratory management and document all corrective actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratories established performance specifications.
-Helps manager/assistant director review all QC, maintenance logs and patients’ results and ensures internal and external customer inquiries are responded to courteously, accurately and in a timely manner and complaints are properly resolved.
-Ensures that PT samples are treated like patients and quality controls.
-Coordinates department staffing and scheduling to ensure adequate shift and skill coverage, maintain laboratory and compliance records and actively participates and is involved in the performance improvement process of the institution.
-Compliance assurance, complaint resolution and conduct laboratory audits and self-assessment to ensure quality, accuracy and reliability of generated data and ensures adequate operating supplies, appropriate inventory management, procurement and accessioning operations including all pre-analytical processing, recording and tracking of specimens.
-Ensures Shift to shift communication to the staff about pending tasks, ongoing compliance and laboratory tasks that needs to be accomplished in a timely manner, adhere to the laboratory's safety and quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
-Interacts with regulatory and accreditation agencies and actively participates in the process of conduction, follow-up, and reporting of external assessment for the purpose of accreditation, licensure, or certification.
-Perform maintenance and calibration (daily/weekly/monthly) on instrumentation or applicable platforms, monitors supplies, inventory, and equipment for adequacy and functionality, troubleshoots problems and calls service or vendor technical support when needed.
-Monitor environmental monitors and document the lot number and expiration dates of the testing materials used.
-Document results accurately in the Laboratory Computer System and complies with all safety and HIPAA issues and maintains environment of care standards and demonstrates reliable and professional conduct and interacts cooperatively with colleagues within the facility.
-Performs other duties assigned and or in an emergency necessary for the welfare of patients or the efficient operation of the hospital.
Basic Preferred Profile:
-BS in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, or related.
-NYS Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist Required.
-6+ years of Blood Bank Experience Required.
Salary and Benefits:
